Shipping a Motor Vehicle
A Police Clearance Certificate and an Export Permit for Motor Vehicles is required before any vehicle can be exported.
Other documentation requiredinclude the Registration Certificate, Purchase Invoice and Identity Document. Prior to the issue of a Police Clearance Certificate, the authorities may also require a shipping confirmation letter. The clearance is valid for 21 days.
Export Permit For Motor Vehicles is issued by the Department of Trade and Industry.
Factorsto considerbefore shipping a car
1. Is the manufacturer represented in the country you are moving to?
2. Is the model you are exporting manufactured or obtainable in that country as parts may differ in a car manufactured in or for the South African market.
3. Is the car left-hand drive or right-hand drive?
4. Does your vehicle comply with regulations in the country you are moving to?
